Maybe my title is a bit over the top but I really think these guys are about as unAmerican as you can get in American politics. Let's take Ted Cruz's crazy tax plan as an example. According to a non-partisan analysis, Cruz's proposed plan would cost American taxpayers trillions of dollars. This is how you reduce the deficit? To make ends meet he would have to fire about 500,000 government employees. Can imagine the chaos that would ensue?
I like the idea of a value-added tax system replacing our income tax. I don't like the flat income tax idea at all. I would rather pay a consumption tax on everything because that should be more fair. But corporations should be paying income taxes and we need to overhaul the corporate tax code so that companies cannot hide billions of dollars overseas.
When US corporations hide their money instead of investing it in creating jobs, the American economy has to limp along on the backs of small businesses. Every dollar that is not invested in new job creation is equal to several dollars pulled out of the US economy.
US corporate leadership plays to the stock market. It's all about keeping stock prices high because if they come down "activist investors" start working on replacing the CEOs. Our system trains corporate leadership to destroy jobs, not create them. This is the craziest economic system in history.
You would not want to invest in a good news resource that went out of its way to NOT report the news, would you? A company that has a lot of money that just sits around collecting miniscule interest in bonds is not doing business. So that is what you are investing in: businesses that do as little business as possible.
Everyone goes on about how Yahoo's "core business" is not worth any money to investors because most of its income comes from an investment Yahoo made in Alibaba years ago. Yahoo's value as a company is based not on its business operations but on its investments. I cannot think of a better poster child for how whack our economy has become.
We need Congressional and Presidential leadership that will focus on bringing corporate cash reserves back into the US economy. We need leadership that will plug the gaping holes in our trade agreements that make it more profitable for companies to move their jobs out of the country. And we need leadership that will say "no" to corporations that want to lay off their American employees so they can hire less expensive H1-B visa employees from India and Pakistan.
I have nothing against the good people from Asia, but we should not be giving American jobs to people from overseas just because US corporations can save a few dollars on salaries. They aren't even paying good cash dividends to their stock holders. They are just piling up money with no plan to do anything with it.
And this is the system that the Republican Party wants to reinforce and make stronger.
